Okay...let's see. First off, I'd recommend against Pasadena. It's nice and all, but it is on the other side of the city.

So...I'd say stick West Side-ish.

So in Santa Monica, you could go to the Santa Monica Pier (http://www.santamonicapier.org/) -- it is outdoors, on the sea and there's a Ferris Wheel. The Pier is not to far from the 3rd Street Promenade...as sort of outdoor mall. Might be cool for you to walk down. Another way to go is walk down the Venice Beach strip. (Where Muscle Beach is...and lots of roller skaters...and tatoo shops)

I'm a bad grad student and have never been to the Getty...but everyone says it is super awesome. You could also hit the Hammer Museum...which is near UCLA. If you wanted to visit UCLA, you could visit Power library...also known as the library of UC Sunnydale from the fourth season of Buffy. You could jog a bit east and see the La Brea tar pits and the LA County Museum of Art which is across the street.

if you wanted to be touristy, you could also go to the Walk of Stars...which is also by Grauman's Chinese theatre. I personally was totally stoaked to see the feet of some of the silent film stars I love immortalised in the cement.

There may be interesting events happening...I'd pick up our free weekly news magazien the LA Weekly and just check out what is happening.

For evening time, I wouldn't be surprised if there were an opera on at the LA Opera.

As for food. Well...there are so many options. It's a bit crazy.

A lot of people like the Cuban place Versailles.
Some of my fave places to eat include; Natalee Thai, El Torito, Nyala Ethiopian Cuisine, Shamshiri Persian, Cafe 50s Diner food...yeah...when you get here, just email me.

I look forward to meeting you as well...I'll be one of the UCLA contingent...and probably wearing a bow tie.

I hope that helps and I'm always to give more help when you need it!
